Join us for a magical and fun summer reading kickoff with a blacklight tekno bubble party at the Widow Jane Mine! People of all ages will win prizes and incentives for participating in the summer reading program. Everyone gets to pick out free books to keep for their home library, an ice cream cone coupon, and we will do drawings for gift certificates to PostMark Books. Summer reading prevents what is called the “summer slide,” a drop in reading level over the summer which happens to kids who don’t read during the months they are not in school. Summer reading maintains and even improves literacy levels, and most of all, it helps people develop a positive relationship with books and reading. This summer's theme is about creative expression. We have many special programs to connect with our creativity on afternoons, evenings, and weekends this summer. See you amongst the bubbles on Saturday, June 14, noon to 2 at the Widow Jane Mine!
Each year new trustees are elected to serve on the library board. If you are interested in giving back to the community and helping the library, the process begins this summer, and the term starts January 1, 2026. We are especially interested in people with a background in construction, a lawyer, or someone with political experience. Please email me for more information, we need your skills! There is now a mobile app that you can download to your phone or tablet. It allows you to stay signed into your account, easily place holds or renew items, reserve museum passes, read newspapers, take online classes etc. without having to sign back into your classes.

Finally, if you are in the mood for a road trip, the library system is sponsoring a MHLS public library road trip with maps that you can get stamped at the different libraries that you visit this summer. There is an incentive also for visiting all the libraries in our county. Come in an pick up a map at the circulation desk.
