Crime Festival Pays Off for Library
Crime Festival Pays Off for Library
Judy Nichols, one of the organizers of the Cape Fear Crime Festival mystery writers conference that took place at Northeast Library on February 5, presented Library Director Harry Tuchmayer with a check for $450 today. Friends of the Library President Wanda Canada, herself a mystery writer, was also present.
"We really appreciated the Library giving us the space for this meeting," Judy said. "After we covered our costs, we wanted the money we raised by charging admission to the workshops to go to the Library." Tuchmayer says the donation will be used to buy books for the Mystery Book Club, which meets on the second Tuesday of each month at Carolina Beach Library. After the Mystery Book Club reads the books, they'll be made available for community book clubs to enjoy.
The Friends of the Library have funded public book clubs at the Library since 1995. Books purchased by the Friends for library book clubs are made available to all community book clubs, in a special section of shelves at the back of Northeast Regional Library.

History Bowling
History Bowling
The Friends of the Library sponsored a team in the Cape Fear History Bowl on February 10, just to lend some moral support to their fellow nonprofit, the Historical Society of the Lower Cape Fear. The Friends were represented by Harry Tuchmayer, Paige Owens, and Wanda Canada, and none of them will talk about how they scored. By some accounts they may have been overthinking some of the questions. In any case, everyone thanks them for being good sports and supporting an educational activity.
For more information about the history of the Lower Cape Fear, visit the Local History Room at the Main Library and talk to the people who live with the subject every day.
