Library Advocacy Update
This is a newsletter for people who want to be updated on any advocacy efforts they can take for the preservation of public library services, and specifically to support causes of concern to the public libraries in Cumberland County, PA.

It is not intended to address issues outside of libraries or promote any political view. The newsletters are periodic, and may contain a call to action or simply provide an update to an advocacy topic.

We understand that Tuesday's call to action went out to many more email addresses than those who intentionally signed up to receive library advocacy updates.
If you were not a subscriber, please accept our apology for this technical error. It is unclear how additional email addresses were added, and we are taking steps to prevent it in the future.

Following this communication, CCLS will delete ALL subscribers to this newsletter and ask those interested in advocacy to re-subscribe through our website.

This will not affect your other LibraryAware subscriptions to services such as NextReads reading recommendation newsletters.
January 30, 2025 - Library Funding Update
Yesterday, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) rescinded the memo that issued a pause on the distribution of federal grant funds. In accordance with the Executive Order, federal funding reviews remain in place.

CCLS public libraries are open to all, do not charge for basic services, and focus on serving the needs of the general public. Federal dollars to libraries allow for resource sharing such as interlibrary loans, educational databases, technology in libraries, and staff support from the Office of Commonwealth Libraries.

How would the loss of federal funding to libraries impact your community? If you wish to share your story with federal elected officials and decision-makers, contact information is available on our website.

Thank you for your support to public library services in Cumberland County, and remember that in order to continue receiving advocacy updates from the Cumberland County Library System, you will need to re-subscribe to this newsletter through our website.
