Read Across America Week Reading Challenge! Children are invited to participate in our special reading challenge beginning March 1 and running through March 7. It’s simple — read just 15 minutes a day, record your time on our reading log, and earn a prize from our prize bin! Reading logs will be available on our website, SimpsonLibrary.org, on February 27. Read Across America Celebration! Saturday, March 7 from 10:30 am - 12:30 pm. Wrap up Read Across America Week with a big celebration! March 9 6:00 – 7:00 pm Grades K - 5 Celebrate International Women’s Day with Robert Munsch and Michael Martchenko's princess of empowerment, The Paper Bag Princess. Make your own princess crown and costume, a fire breathing dragon, a fortune teller, create your own Coat of Arms, and color a bookmark. We’ll play Pin the Wings on the Dragon and you can Build Your Own Castle Snack out of graham crackers, pretzels, and cheese. 1st Thursday of each month 6:00 – 7:00 pm March 5 Build a Movie Set Lights, camera, build! 🎬 Put your engineering skills to the test as you plan, design, and construct a pretend movie set using LEGOs. Create your own scene, build the set, and bring your imagination to life brick by brick. It’s a hands-on challenge that encourages creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork — all while having tons of fun! Registration requested at least 24 hours prior. March 26 Basket Blastoff: Land a basket with a Marshmallow Catapult This is a fun, hands-on STEAM activity where participants build catapults from simple materials like craft sticks and spoons to launch marshmallows, explore physics concepts like potential/kinetic energy, force, and trajectory, with competitive elements like target practice or distance contests. It involves using simple machines (levers) to store energy by pulling back a launching arm, then releasing it to propel a marshmallow towards a target, promoting engineering design and problem-solving skills. Meets the third Monday of each month September through May from 6:00 - 7:00 pm. Our Tales for TAILS (Therapy Animals Increase Literacy Skills) Program is an effective and fun way to improve children's reading and communication skills though the assistance of registered pet therapy teams as literacy mentors. The child reads to the pet as the pet quietly sits or lies close by. The child is encouraged to pet, engage, and connect with the pet. Please bring several books at your child's reading level that they can read to the dogs. March 16 Registration required. Walk-ins will be welcome if space permits. A caregiver must sign-in walk-ins.

Younger children will enjoy putting together one of our giant, oversized floor puzzles. Older children can solve riddles, mazes, crosswords, or word-finds. Meets the third Saturday of each month from 10:30 am-12:30 pm. Does your child love making crafts? Then make time for Craft-A-Palooza! Each child can make two crafts. One craft will follow simple instructions or an example. The second craft, our “craft challenge,” is based on a monthly theme and will allow your child to express their creativity and individuality.
