FEDERAL LIBRARY FUNDING |
Dear Hooksett Community Members, |
On March 14, 2025, President Trump signed the executive order Continuing the Reduction of the Federal Bureaucracy, directing the reduction of certain federal agencies, including the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), “…that the President has determined are unnecessary.”
The IMLS is a federal agency that provides critical funding to libraries and museums across the country, including in New Hampshire, supporting initiatives that enhance access to information, promote lifelong learning, and strengthen community resources.
In the New Hampshire library community, IMLS grants provide between $1.3–$1.5 million annually to support essential library services such as interlibrary loans, digital books (eBooks/eAudiobooks) and magazines, and services for patrons with low vision or blindness.
Reaching out to our Congressional Delegation can help ensure that these critical resources remain available for our library patrons. Advocacy efforts, such as sending letters or making calls, can emphasize the critical importance of library funding and services in our Hooksett community. |
