We are introducing two Micro Gallery installations in our Elgin County Library system – one at Belmont Library and another at the West Lorne Library. Next time you visit the branch(es), please take some time to reflect on the names displayed on the spines as each book represents a real person. There are similar displays across the country, but every book in each collection features the name of a different person. We have 30 books in each of our Micro Gallery installations and will rotating them between our ten branches so visitors across the county will be able to view them.
The Micro Gallery is a grassroot art installation that will serve as a memory of all Indigenous Women and Children that have been murdered or gone missing and for colonizers to learn the true history of Turtle Island, now known as Canada. The hope is to help bring about true reconciliation. For more information and to read the stories about the names on the books, visit thecanadianlibrary.ca
After what feels like 10 months of winter, we are so excited to be talking about Summer! Our team has been busy planning our annual TD Summer Reading Club "Read around the World" as well as our Teen and Adult Reading Clubs. More information about our upcoming programs are found in this newsletter. While the TD Summer Reading Program begins July 3rd, you can register starting June 21st. For our young families, YWCA will continue to offer a weekly drop-in Playgroup on Mondays throughout the summer. For our older community members, join us for our June VON program before the program takes a summer break July and August. We look forward to seeing you at Belmont Library throughout the summer.
Happy Readings from your friendly neighbourhood Librarians, Colleen, Leah, Maria, Rebecca and Vicki
