January is National Braille Literacy Month
 
Here is a booklist of Braille books in our library for kids.
 
Get more Braille books from the California State Library- Braille and Talking Book Library. 
January is Positive Parenting Awareness Month 
 
Triple P (Postitive Parenting Program) is partnering with the Santa Cruz Public Libraries to host the Laid Back Book Club at 5 of our  branches. Find a different title (English and Spanish) at each participating branch. This year's theme is Kindness. 
 
Participating branches: Boulder Creek, Capitola, Downtown, Live Oak and
Scotts Valley

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
January 20th
 
Each year, on the third Monday in January, the
nation honors the life and enduring influence of
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He is celebrated as a champion of nonviolence in America and as a prominent figure in the Civil Rights Movement.

Lunar New Year 2025
January 29th
 
In the Chinese zodiac, 2025 is the year of the snake. Different regions across Asia celebrate Lunar New year in many ways and may follow a different zodiac. Not all Asian countries and many Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders do not observe the Chinese/lunar zodiac.
