"A poem begins in delight and ends in wisdom.”
-Robert Frost
________________________
April is National Poetry Month. First established in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets, this monthlong event has become one of the most popular literary celebrations in the world. Some of the most influential poets in the English language include William Shakespeare, John Milton, William Wordsworth, Edgar Allan Poe, and Walt Whitman. Perhaps one of the best ways you can start celebrating poetry month is to check out one of these poems:
  • On His Blindness / John Milton
  • The Raven / Edgar Allen Poe
  • O Captain! My Captain! / Walt Whitman
  • Daffodils / William Wordsworth
  • Sonnet 116 / William Shakespeare
Poems come in all shapes and sizes. If the 36,000 lines of Edmund Spenser’s The Faerie Queene seem too daunting, try some 14-line sonnets or 3-line haikus. Samuel Taylor Coleridge defined prose as “words in their best order” and poetry as “the best words in the best order.”  You deserve the best this April—read poetry.

Financial Literacy

Financial literacy is the ability to understand and effectively use various financial skills, including personal financial management, budgeting, and investing. It involves being knowledgeable about financial principles and concepts such as the time value of money, compound interest, debt management, and the importance of credit scores. Financial literacy empowers individuals to make informed decisions about their money, helping them to achieve financial stability and security.

In today's complex financial landscape, being financially literate is more important than ever. It enables people to navigate financial challenges, avoid common pitfalls like excessive debt, and plan for long-term goals such as retirement or buying a home. By improving financial literacy, individuals can better manage their finances, reduce stress, and build a more secure future for themselves and their families.

Picks and shovels
by Cory Doctorow

The year is 1986. The city is San Francisco. Here, Martin Hench will invent the forensic accountant--what a bounty hunter is to people, he is to money--but for now he's an MIT dropout odd-jobbing his way around a city still reeling from the invention of a revolutionary new technology that will change everything about crime forever, one we now take completely for granted. When Marty finds himself hired by Silicon Valley PC startup Fidelity Computing to investigate a group of disgruntled ex-employees who've founded a competitor startup, he quickly realizes he's on the wrong side. Marty ditches the greasy old guys running Fidelity Computing without a second thought, utterly infatuated with the electric atmosphere of Computing Freedom. Located in the heart of the Mission, this group of brilliant young women found themselves exhausted by the predatory business practices of Fidelity Computing and set out to beat them at their own game, making better computers and driving Fidelity Computing out of business. But this optimistic startup, fueled by young love and California-style burritos, has no idea the depth of the evil they're seeking to unroot or the risks they run.

Breaking free from broke : the ultimate guide to more money and less stress
by George Kamel

"America has become the land of the free and the home of the broke. Household debt is at an all-time high, and every day people-just like you-are feeling more cynical and hopeless about their financial futures. It's time to stop believing countless liesfrom a system designed to take your money-lies like student loans are the golden ticket to a good-paying job, car payments are just part of life, and that you need to have a credit card. Ramsey Personality and personal finance expert George Kamel shareshis story of going from a negative net worth to a millionaire in under 10 years by following Dave Ramsey's Baby Steps. George's delivery, highlighted by his snarky sense of humor, will keep you laughing and engaged from cover to cover (no put-you-to-sleep financial advice here). Through a millennial point of view, George exposes the toxic money system designed to keep you average (and broke) and offers solutions to help you break free from: credit cards and credit scores, student and car loans, mortgage mistakes, investing traps, marketing and consumerism. No matter where you're starting from, you'll learn that you have the power to buck the toxic money system and build wealth if you follow the same principles George used to become a millionaire"
