January is Social Literacy Month!

Social literacy is the ability to understand and navigate social situations effectively, using skills like empathy, communication, and cultural awareness to build positive relationships, act responsibly, and participate constructively in your community.

Why is it important?
  • It's essential for personal, academic, and professional success!  You have to know how to act and react in different settings--for example, you might not behave the same with your siblings as you do with co-workers or your boss.
  • Having a good sense of social literacy and connection will improve mental health and reduces your risk of anxiety and depression.
  • It creates informed, participatory, and productive citizens all contributing to the rich fabric of our community!
