SEPTEMBER POET'S PEN SUMMARY & NEXT MEETING

Poet's Pen is a dedicated time to share our own and other poets' works, to allow time for writing/workshopping, and for closing with reading of works in progress. Four poets met on September 28 to listen, write, and read a variety of poems - and have a ton of fun! Please join us on Monday, October 19th at 4:30pm (NEW DATE just for this month) for our next gathering. Check lopezlibrary.org or email Beth for more information.
Poems Shared
Pam shared her poem "Standing Tree" that won an award and will be placed in the San Juan Island Sculpture Garden. Congratulations!

 by Pamela Pulver

Beth shared her acrostic poem, Gulls:

Gladly will I listen to the
Utterances of these
Loud, sky-colored beings who
Live and laugh beyond the measure of
Storms and calm

Sweet Jay shared her poem:

"Dear Hawthorn"

Dear Hawthorne
I know you can hear
What my heart is thinking
If I fill my mouth
To the brim
With your plentiful berries
Would you share with me
The secrets
She only bleeds
To Thee?

Jerome shared a poem he wrote to cheer a friend.

Writing Time
Prompt: Write a poem inspired by a picture postcard.

Beth's postcard was of a birch tree with two "eyes"
Eyes
that hold me
still as stone
asking
nothing.
Relief!

Jerome's postcard was of an owl:
You stare at me
overlording
your wisdom making
my foolishness
more obvious
what can I do?
don't fly away

Pam's postcard depicted a cut tree sump with a dark center and a moth:
"A Grain of Wood" - "the color of wings in the dark"

Sweet Jay's postcard contained 3 ferns:
"Three of Ferns"
"as I pass on my walk
I bow to kin"
