ANNOUNCEMENTS
Call to join the Lopez Island Library Board of Trustees

The Lopez Island Library Board of Trustees seeks a new member to join our friendly collegial 5-member board. In conjunction with the director and staff, trustees set the direction of the library by adopting policies and long-range plans, assuring compliance with laws, and overseeing the library’s expenditure of funds. Board members also represent the interests of the community and are appointed to serve as stewards of its money, knowledge, and culture. Many skill sets are needed. The Lopez Island Library Board is a working board; responsibilities generally require about 10 hours a month.

The application process: please send a Letter of Interest by August 12 detailing your reasons for wanting to join the Board, how your background and experience will contribute to the Board objectives, and your areas of interest. The Letter of Interest and any questions should be addressed to trustees@lopezlibrary.org. The Library Board is an organization that expects and encourages questions; after all, we are in the Information Business.

The Library Board will begin interviews with applicants the week of August 26-30.

Teens Take Over the Library

Seen a few fresh faces behind the Circulation Desk recently? This summer, the library welcomes five teens as the newest cohort of summer interns. In addition to helping library patrons, these incredible high-schoolers are creating exciting programs. For instance, August will see our first-ever escape room and the rebirth of teen movie night. Watch out for much more! One teen is also improving the library’s outreach by designing a survey to better understand the interests of the island’s Spanish-speaking community.

Huge thanks to the Friends of Lopez Island Library for making sure these are paid positions, providing valuable experience for the interns but also enhancing the library's offerings and strengthening community connections.

Garden Work Party

Calling all green and not-so-green thumbs! It’s time to spruce up the library grounds, so we’re throwing a garden work party. August 6, 9am to 11am. We’ll be doing a little weeding, some light pruning, and spreading wood chips. Bring whatever tools you love for this kind of activity and your favorite gardening gloves. We’ll have snacks and drinks to keep our energy up. Plus, there will be plenty of laughter and community. Let Darren know if you’re thinking of coming so we can order enough food. Email him at: darren@lopezlibrary.org
Library Card Renewals Keep Your Account Current & Active

Receiving an automated call or email from Biblionix about renewing your account is a normal library occurrence. Patrons are contacted once every 5 years to confirm addresses, phone numbers, emails and notification preferences. This allows us to keep our records current and your services (such as Libby ebooks & audiobooks) running smoothly. Here is the message you will receive from Biblionix, our safe and secure software:

"Your Lopez Library account is up for renewal. Please call 360-468-2265 to renew your account, or it will expire in two weeks. We use this as an opportunity to update contact info and add any new emails or phone numbers to your record. Thank you for using the Lopez Library's collection and services."
