Tuesdays at 2:30pm – 3:30pm Starts October 11th in the Children’s Room Ages 6 & up Join Miss Jane at the Lopez Library after school on Tuesday afternoons to enjoy hands-on activities and stories with a monthly theme. Lopez Island School District students can take the bus to the Library. Snack included! October: Day of the Dead This month's theme will celebrate Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), a tradition originating in Mexico to honor and remember family members. Starting October 11, Miss Jane and arts educator Kathleen Briley will share Day of the Dead stories and lead group craft activities. Every Tuesday, participants will add their hand-made items to a group ofrenda (altar) that will be part of the Library-wide Day of the Dead celebration on Thursday, November 3rd.

Raven and Kelly are Lopez-based glass blowers who make exquisite and sophisticated blown-glass sculptures, often inspired by the natural world. On Saturday, simple methods of growing mushrooms both indoors and outdoors will be presented as well as basic fungal terminology and the mushroom life cycle. Participants will make an oyster mushroom grow kit to take home. Sunday we will cover basic aspects of mushroom identification with an emphasis on common mushrooms often found on Lopez. After the presentation we will head out to the forest for a short walk and discussion of the species encountered. REGISTER HERE for either or both workshops. They each present unique information.

Wed, OCT 12th at 5pm Literary Salon meets the 2nd Wednesday of each month to share recent favorite reads. We call it a no-rules book club, a time to share with others the best of whatever you have been reading.

Wed, OCT 19th at 5pm Whodunit Book Club meets the 3rd Wednesday of each month to discuss cozy or near-cozy mysteries, i.e., nothing too graphic. This month we will discuss one of the original detective stories, The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins.

November 10th: The Big Library Read Coming November 2-16: The Big Library Read. Join the global book club by reading A Snake Falls to Earth by Darcie Little Badger, with no holds or waitlists on Libby/Overdrive, and participate in online discussion groups. We will meet at the library (and on Zoom) November 10 at 5pm for a discussion.
