TrashedArt: Bring Your Own Junk Thursday, February 27, 6:30 - 7:45 pmThe Mercer County Library System is hosting the 16th Annual TrashedArt Contest, inviting Mercer County residents ages 14 and up to make something unique and beautiful out of items you’d ordinarily recycle or throw in the trash. At this makers session, you are invited to create “assemblage,” aka an artistic composition made from scraps, junk, and odds and ends. BYOJ (bring your own junk) from your junk drawer or home recycling bin to supplement our basic supplies. Ages 12-18 may participate in this program; you must be 14 or older to enter the contest. The TrashedArt Contest Returns! The TrashedArt Contest is back! Remake, reuse and renew the items you would recycle or throw in the trash into something unique and beautiful - and rethink the usefulness of garbage. The contest celebrates Earth Day by encouraging patrons to turn ordinary trash into extraordinary art. Submit your artwork to the Lawrence Headquarters Branch between February 25th - March 4th.

Branch NewsMusic, movies, crafts, Legos, dancing, science… February’s calendar has them all! Monday evenings have mTiny Robots (every 1st Monday), Lego Building Challenges (every 2nd Monday), and an experiment to make plastic with milk. Tuesday evenings have crochet club, a movie night to see The One and Only Ivan in our pjs while eating popcorn (rated PG), and a dance session with Nintendo’s “Just Dance” game. Wednesday evenings have our Study Buddies program, and Thursday evenings have many fun teen programs, including making roses with paper quilling as well as the programs highlighted above. New as of last month is our Sunday afternoon drop-in craft station, and this month we will be adding both a Wednesday morning Baby Storytime with Miss Jen and Friday afternoon crafts for teens. Finally, the Children’s Department has new tables and chairs in the Activity Room! Stop by to try them out when you come to a program!
