Fireside Chat without the Fire!On Friday, February 6, at 6:00pm, the RML will be open in the evening for a special after-hours version of our Fireside Chat without the Fire! Our guest speaker is Anthony Amore, an art theft expert, investigator, and security practitioner. Presently, he is Director of Security and Chief Investigator at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, where he is charged with the ongoing efforts to recover thirteen works of art stolen from the museum on March 18, 1990. His book The Rembrandt Heist is a tale of unbelievable friendship, loyalty, criminal genius, and a staggeringly audacious plot to steal one of the world's most valuable paintings--and return it. Blind Date with a BookFind love at the Library in February...er, with a book, that is! The Blind Date with a Book display is back! Select a fancily wrapped book based on the clues and genre written on its cover.
 Should you choose a mystery, a romance, historical fiction, or something else? Will you go on one date at a time, or select a handful of dates? Whatever your desire, we want to hear about your dates, so please take a "Rate Your Date" bookmark when borrowing and return it to us when you finish your book(s).

Are you excited for the Super Bowl? Or maybe you just like all the food? Stop by the children's room the first week of February to vote on who you want to win and your favorite game-day food. Children will get a small prize! Children in grades K-5 can trade in their time spent reading for playing cards all February, March, and April as we launch Reading Dragons and Friends! First, visit either our library, the Plainville Public Library, or the Attleboro Public Library to register and receive a reading log. Then, return to any of these three libraries as you progress through the log to receive dragon cards. There are 3 dragons in total, with 4 stages of cards per dragon. Stop by to learn more! We are happy to launch our newest monthly program: PJ storytime! This will be held on the first Monday of each month at 6pm and is great for children ages 3 to 7. Siblings are always welcome. Join us for storytime Mondays and Thursdays at 10am. Hear stories, sing songs, get up and move, and do an easy craft. Storytimes are best for children ages 0-7. There will be no storytime on February 16 or 19 due to school vacation.  Can't make it to storytime? Grab a Take and Make bagged craft from the front Reading Room on the first Tuesday of each month. This month's craft is a Berry Valentine and is great for children ages 2 and up. February Vacation Fun! February 17: Play-Doh Seashell Imprints, Sensory fun for ages 2+ from 10am-2pm. February 17: Bad Art Time, Ages 7+ from 2-3pm. Create outrageously "bad" art using fun supplies. No skills required--just imagination, creativity, and a willingness to create!
February 18: Make and Take Legos, Ages 3+ from 10am-1pm. February 18: Beaded Jewelry Making, Ages 4+ from 2pm-5pm.
February 21: LED Indoor Mini Golf for the whole family from 11am-2pm. Check out our monthly clubs! Chess and Checkers Club for ages 6 and up meets Tuesday, February 3, at 6pm. Welcome to children ages 6 and up, teens, and families. Some knowledge of the games are expected.
The STEAM Cart will be out in the Children's Room from 10am-6pm on Wednesdays and 10am-4pm on Saturdays. Each day, there will be a new STEAM activity for children to enjoy. Items include Snap Circuits, Legos, Keva Planks, Marble Run, and Magna Tiles. Teens  Teens are invited to join adults at the Community Fiber Arts Circle on the first Thursday (3:30-5pm) and third Thursday of the month (5:30-7pm). Teens ages 10+ are invited try out the Chocolate Olympics featuring a variety of chocolate-themed activities on Thursday, February 19, from 2-3pm! Registration begins on February 1 in order to secure your spot. |

Reading Challenge 2026Richards Memorial Library has again partnered with the Massachusetts Center for the Book (MCB) on their 2026 Reading Challenge!
To participate, read a book each month in a specific category and then fill out a monthly entry form for the chance to win free books or book-related items. You can participate as little (one month) or as much (all 12 months) as you want. Whatever works for your schedule!
February's challenge is to read a book outside your usual genre(s) or have a fun go at spinning the genre wheel on MCB's page to help make your selection. This month's theme could be a great way for families participating in the challenge to connect to the Student Reading Challenge theme. So many options to make February a month of reading! |
