Message from the Director

Greetings!
 
The Friends of the RML are looking for new members!  
Please consider joining the Friends of the Library (FOL) and volunteering your time to help raise funds that support library programs, program supplies, and museum passes. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 9, at 6:30pm in the library meeting room, and we welcome all those interested.   
 
We want to hear from you!  
The Library is in the process of gathering community feedback for a new strategic plan. Please join us for one of two Community Focus Groups on Monday, June 15, at 3:00-4:30pm or
6:00-7:30pm. Each session will run for approximately 90 minutes.
 
Be Part of the Plan!
  • Share your ideas about the library’s future
  • Offer feedback on current services, spaces, and programs
  • Help identify community needs and priorities
  • Refreshments will be provided
  • Please register using the library's online calendar or call the library to RSVP

Summer hours--now through September 8!
Whether you plan to visit for a quiet working space, computer use, or to stock up on books and DVDs for a relaxing weekend, please note our new summer hours: 

Monday – Thursday: 9:00am–7:00pm
Friday & Saturday: 9:00am–1:00pm
(closed on Sundays and holidays)
New passes and fishing poles!
The Library is excited to debut new fishing rod kits in partnership with MassWildlife’s Hooks & Books program! We’ve also added new museum passes to the following institutions: Providence Children’s Museum, Mystic Aquarium, Children’s Museum of Easton, Battleship Cove, and Capron Park Zoo (per Zoo rules, passes are available for North Attleboro residents only).

Pass reservations may be made up to 60 days in advance. (Please note the Patriots Hall of Fame will be closed from June 13-July 9 during the FIFA World Cup.)

Children & Teen Programs
 
Help prevent the summer slide with our summer reading program! This year’s theme is Plant a Seed, Read! Children ages 3-17 are encouraged to register beginning June 15. They will receive a reading log and instructions, plus a goody bag for younger children. Children will earn small prizes and votes for favorite zoo animal as they progress through the log. Upon finishing their log, children will receive a raffle ticket for a fun prize, a certificate of completion, and a coupon for a free Palagis lemonade and new book at our summer reading wrap-up event on August 8. 
 
Prizes this year include a microscope kit, passes to Launch, Treetop Adventures, Showcase Cinemas, and Level 99, plus gift cards to Dairy Queen and An Unlikely Story. Registration ends July 31, and log redemption ends August 8. Find more information and a list of our donors on our web site.
 
Join us for a special summer storytime about the beach on June 18 at 10am. Hear stories, sing songs, get up and move, and then do a sticker craft in this program great for ages 0-7.
 
Magician magic hat rabbit ears wandWe kick off our summer programs with Mike Bent’s AbraKIDabra magic show on Wednesday, June 24, for ages 3 and up. Registration is required. 
 
Other programs this month include Decorate A Canvas Tote Bag on June 22 and June 23 (registration required), Marble Run on June 25, Play-doh Seashell Imprints for ages 2 and up on June 26, Seed Art and Mosaics for ages 4 and up on June 29 (registration required), and Paper Circuits for ages 8 and up on June 30 (registration required).

Teens
Basket of yarnTeens are invited to join adults at the Community Fiber Arts Circle on the first and third Thursdays (3:30-5:00pm) of the month.
 
Join our official Teen Silent Book Club on Monday, June 22. Bring your own book or ask a librarian for help finding a book. Register here.
 
 The Youth Advisory Council applications will launch in August this year.

Adult Programs 
 
Adult Summer Reading at the RML!

Are you ready to read this summer? Then join our new adult summer reading program that follows this year's theme of Plant a Seed, Read! 

Between June 25 - August 8, attend fun, monthly, hands-on programs like making your own bath fizzy and a writing session led by town poet laureate Kayla Roy. Also, grab your own bingo card, overflowing with reading ideas to help you achieve a bingo. The more bingos you complete, the more times you are entered into a summer-ending drawing for prizes that include a brand-new Kindle and gifts from local businesses like Whisk & Paddle and Briggs Nursery!

Registration begins on Thursday, June 25. Make this a summer of reading joy!
 


Long-Term Care Educational Workshop
Saturday, June 6, 11:00am-12:00pm
Do you have a long-term care plan? If not, family usually steps in to take on the role of caregiver, and it can be exhausting, emotionally, physically, and financially. Planning ahead can help you maintain your independence and dignity, protect your financial assets, and preserve the inheritance you've worked hard to build for your family. Register here for this session, led by Chris Ireland of Gorra Financial Group

Make Your Own Bath Fizzy!
Thursday, June 25, 5:00-6:30pm
Kick off adult summer reading at this fun, hands-on program! Create a bath fizzy using natural botanicals with the provided materials. During the program, get a quick overview of adult summer reading, including how to register, grabbing your bingo card, and the end-of-program celebration--and all the goodies you can enjoy--on August 8! Register here for this session.
 
Community Fiber Arts Circle
Are you interested in fiber arts? If so, the Library hosts a Community Fiber Arts Circle on the first and third Thursdays of the month.
 Colorful Threads on the Wooden Floor

Come crochet, knit, embroider, weave, etc. with fellow fiber crafters! Beginners are welcome. Come work on your latest project, make new friends, and bounce ideas off of each other. There will be no direct teaching of fiber arts, but community guidance and sharing of ideas are greatly encouraged. Open to ages 12-adult and all experience levels.

Please note that both meeting times are from 3:30-5:00pm, allowing group members to meet and enjoy each other's company and encouragement twice a month!

Popular author Elly Griffiths' The Zig Zag Girl is this month's read, focusing on a
 band of magicians who served together in World War II tracking a killer performing their deadly tricks. Join this lively group for a thoughtful discussion each month!
What is the RML Staff reading?
Each month, we will feature what two staff members are currently reading. Always ask us for read-alikes, too!

MA Reading Challenge 2026

This month marks the halfway point of the Massachusetts Center for the Book's Reading Challenge! Join other readers across the Commonwealth in this fun, thematic year of books.

And what an interesting theme for June: A book with a sympathetic villain! There are more titles than you think. Please visit the Reference Desk for some suggestions. You may discover a new author or series to enjoy. 

After you finish your book, fill out the monthly entry form
for the chance to win free books or book-related items. You can participate as little (one month) or as much (all 12 months) as you want. Whatever works for your schedule!
