Savvy Sightseer’s Letterboxing: Looking for Long Island’s Hidden Secrets Letterboxing, a hobby that started in England in the 1850s, is an excellent activity for social-distancing times for people who enjoy the great outdoors and a puzzle to solve.

People have hidden beautifully carved stamps just waiting for you to work out the crafty clues and add them to your collection in a stamp logbook. Discover many wonderful places where many boxes are hidden a little off the beaten path. Savvy Sightseer Jeanne Schnupp introduces you to this fun, outdoor, treasure-tracking activity and takes you to some of Long Island’s surprising gems in Wantagh, Plainview, Farmingville, Shirley, Huntington, Stony Brook, and Smithtown. Curbside Pick-Up is available - do you need books for your children? The fastest way is to call and speak to a Children's Librarian at 631-286-0818 ext. 2. As an alternative, you can fill out this form -- Children's Librarians will pick books based on your answers. If you have more than one child, fill out a form for each child.

Coming soon... Children's Craft Kits! The Children's staff are hard at work creating lots of craft kits for the summer. They will be available on Wednesdays and Saturdays in July. Keep an eye on our Facebook page, wait for the email next Saturday, or call the Children’s Dept after June 30 for details.
