South Country Library
Weekly Round-Up
June 27, 2020
Building community by sharing the wonders of learning, creating and connecting with one another.
Happy Summer, South Country Community!

And you know what Summer means...SUMMER READING! It's a little different this year, but of course it's still happening. Read below for more, and don't miss the exercise programs, a return from the one and only Savvy Sightseer, and a whole slew of Young Adult Programs!

Have you been Staying Stable? Definitely check out Gifts of Gab if you or someone you know is feeling isolated or lonely. And watch the ‘Skincare for all Seasons’ video if you…well, have skin. Take a slow scroll through the rest of the links — is there something you may have missed before? Or a resource you didn’t need a couple months ago, but may need now? If you’re looking for a job, make sure to check the free resources under “Job & Career.” Or are you a caregiver to a toddler or elder? There’s lots of helpful links in the “Support for Parents” document, and another week of programs for caregivers of elders from the Parker Jewish Institute.

In Learning & Leisure, we’ve got another tricky game of trivia! Plus a guide from PBS Kids on how to use children’s books to talk about racism. And don’t miss this weekend’s drive-in movies down the road at The Gateway!

Keep cool, keep hydrated, and of course...keep reading!

Savvy Sightseer’s Letterboxing:
Looking for Long Island’s Hidden Secrets

Letterboxing, a hobby that started in England in the 1850s, is an excellent activity for social-distancing times for people who enjoy the great outdoors and a puzzle to solve.
People have hidden beautifully carved stamps just waiting for you to work out the crafty clues and add them to your collection in a stamp logbook. Discover many wonderful places where many boxes are hidden a little off the beaten path.

Savvy Sightseer Jeanne Schnupp introduces you to this fun, outdoor, treasure-tracking activity and takes you to some of Long Island’s surprising gems in Wantagh, Plainview, Farmingville, Shirley, Huntington, Stony Brook, and Smithtown.

Email jsalvatore@sctylib.org through Friday, July 3 with the subject “Letterboxing” to receive the video link available for you to view at your convenience.

To play, click here and enter the game pin 02164583. As usual, you have until Tuesday at 9:00 PM to enter.
