Happy Autumn, South Country Community, and Shana Tova to those observing the Jewish High Holy Days.
 
This edition is more packed than a late-November leaf bag. Not only do we have the usual great programs and activities for every age, but we also have some donation opportunities and a couple upcoming outdoor programs! (weather permitting)  And hey teens -- make sure you don't miss all the programs for you near the bottom, including two new crafts and a movie night.

Fall Food Drive
 
We are taking donations of non-perishable, non-expired food. Our donation bin is in the front lobby -- donations can be dropped off at any time we are open. If you have the means, we hope you'll join us in clearing out the cupboard and helping our neighbors in need!
 

 
The Great Give Back
Cell Phones for Soldiers
 
Beginning October 1, please donate your gently-used cell phones (including batteries) to the box across from the Patron Services desk. Please factory reset your phones and remove SIM cards before donating.
 
Family Pumpkin Painting Party
Saturday, October 24 starting at 12:00 PM, in the Library parking lot
 
Enjoy some music to get you in the fall spirit while you paint pumpkins at socially-distanced tables (supplies provided). Then don your masks and come inside to collect treats from each of our service desks! 
 
Registration is required -- tables are limited. Registration begins October 1. Call us at 631-286-0818 or come to the Reference Desk.
Costumes are encouraged but not required. Masks are required when inside the building and when social distance cannot be maintained. In the event of rain or worsening of the pandemic, this event will be cancelled.

The Children's Department is open for browsing. There are no toys or games. Two internet/typing computers are available for kids to use.

Squirrel Craft & Storytime on Zoom
Wednesday, September 30, 4:00 PM 
 
Join Miss Carrie for an interactive storytime starring squirrels! Email childrens@sctylib.org to sign up for this craft & storytime combination.
Come to the library starting Monday, September 28 to pick up a squirrel craft kit (while supplies last). We'll email you a Zoom link so you can join Miss Carrie for storytime on September 30 at 4:00 PM.

Read With Me begins in October!
 
Sign up your child for a one-on-one virtual session with a children's librarian. The librarian will read one book to your child, and your child can practice their reading skills and read a book to the librarian. Email childrens@sctylib.org to schedule a 15-minute session with us.

Would your child enjoy receiving a surprise in the mail? One of our Children's Librarians can send them a letter! Or, let us know a week before their birthday, and we'll send a happy birthday message!

Outdoor Qigong at the Post Morrow Foundation
16 Bay Road, Brookhaven

Join us at Post Morrow for in-person Qigong! This ancient, evidence-based Chinese healing art consists of low-impact exercises which help to lower blood pressure, increase bone density, and improve balance. Instructor Tom Linden is certified by the Center for Taiji Studies.
 
No class fee. A signed 2020 exercise waiver must be on file. To register for one or both sessions, visit the Reference Desk to sign a waiver or call to confirm we have yours (631-286-0818 ext. 1).
