Seed Starting Kit Pickup begins Monday, March 20 This Mini Greenhouse Germination Kit includes 6 cells prefilled with organic soil, a drip tray, and a humidity dome. Visit our Seed Library to choose your seeds. South Country cardholders only; limit one per household.

In partnership with the Health and Welfare Council of Long Island, the library will host multiple organizations in our main corridor, providing information on SNAP benefits and nutrition help, aid to the developmentally disabled, housing assistance, mental and behavioral health services, and more!

Bethpage VITA: FSA Tax Prep Tuesdays, March 21 OR April 4, 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Tax Department employees guide you step-by-step as you e-file your own income tax return using secure online tax software at no cost. You qualify if you earned $73,000 or less in 2022.

Must have basic computer skills. Bring a personal internet-capable device (smartphone or tablet) with access to your active email account. This Facilitated Self Assistance is offered in cooperation with Bethpage Federal Credit Union's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. Limited appointments -- South Country Library cardholders only. Registration begins Wednesday, March 1, at 9:30 AM. Come to the Reference Desk or call (631) 286-0818 x1. You will register for a time slot between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM, for March 21 or April 4.

Vote for our next Outdoor Movie, which we will show on Friday, May 19, at the South Country Ambulance Company. Choose from three classic baseball films: The Sandlot, Field of Dreams, and A League of Their Own. Voting ends Thursday, March 30. Winner announced on March 31.

The Library offers free passes to select museums on Long Island & in NYC. We also provide access to discounted tickets to Long Island Aquarium & the Bronx Zoo.

We now have print-on-demand passes for the The Long Island Museum of Art, History, and Carriages, the Guggenheim Museum, and Sands Point Preserve. Click here and use the drop-down menu to choose these or other destinations.

Supplies are still low in our Give or Take Food Pantry Please help us help your neighbors in need. We will very gratefully accept donations in the bin in our lobby of non-perishable food to help re-stock the pantry. Thank you for your generosity!

When stocked, our Give or Take Food Pantry provides food items for those in need, in the lobby anytime the library is open.

Sign Up to be a Literacy Volunteer! Are you interested in helping someone learn to read and write English? The Library is looking for volunteers with instructional experience who would like to open countless doors for someone else by offering the gift of literacy. Interested persons should complete this application and contact Jack in the Reference Department at 631-286-0818 ext 1.

South Country Library patrons may renew their card or apply for a new one online. Images of photo ID & address verification are required. Or visit our Patron Services desk at the front of the library for the same service.

Passport Services by Appointment We serve first-time applicants, minor applicants, adult applicants whose most recent passport was issued as a minor, and applicants who have lost their passports.
|
|
Hours are by appointment only. You may also call us at 631-286-0818 x1. Our service cannot renew a passport. Printed forms are available by the Reference Desk.

Do you, or does a friend, need help finding resources to regain stability in life? Angie and Kate are our social work interns from Stony Brook University. They can help with information, referrals, and paperwork for housing, treatment, social services, unemployment, food pantries, and more.

Services for Veterans and Job-Seekers
|
|
Helps veterans and their families navigate the VA bureaucracy, provides academic tutoring, and assists with employment transition.
|
Provides various tools to help with every step of the job search including résumé assistance, interview preparation, and career planning.
|
|
Each service provides live virtual assistance every day from 2:00 - 11:00 PM. A current library card is required.
