Hello South Country Community,
 
Families with Children: Our Guess How Many and Winter Reading challenges are wrapping up. Then on Wednesday, March 1, our March In-Person Programs open for registration, including real live animals at the library!
 
Teens: On March 1, registration opens for our Diamond Painting craft kit. Need community service hours? Come sort seeds for our Seed Library (multiple days available). View the YA March calendar for more volunteer opportunities and fun events.
 
Adults: If you or an adult you know needs help improving their English, take a look at these weekly classes: Conversation Skills and ESL Class. Plus, join us for the return of the Community Acoustic Jam.

This Mini Greenhouse Germination Kit includes 6 cells prefilled with organic soil, a drip tray, and a humidity dome. Visit our Seed Library to choose your seeds.
South Country cardholders only;

511NY Rideshare
Thursday, February 23, 12:00 - 3:00 PM
 
511NY Rideshare will be available in the library's main corridor to speak with you about their services, which include:
  • Helping people find carpools and save money on gas.
  • The Guaranteed Ride Home program for those who already use transit or carpool.
  • Trip planning assistance.
  • Advice on the most efficient travel options.
  • Vanpool formation & technical assistance.

In partnership with the Health and Welfare Council of Long Island, the library will host multiple organizations in our main corridor, providing information on SNAP benefits and nutrition help, aid to the developmentally disabled, housing assistance, mental and behavioral health services, and more!
 
Bethpage VITA: FSA Tax Prep
Tuesdays, March 21 OR April 4,
10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Tax Department employees guide you step-by-step as you e-file your own income tax return using secure online tax software at no cost. You qualify if you earned $73,000 or less in 2022.
Must have basic computer skills. Bring a personal internet-capable device (smartphone or tablet) with access to your active email account. This Facilitated Self Assistance is offered in cooperation with Bethpage Federal Credit Union's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program.
 
Limited appointments -- South Country Library cardholders only.
 
Registration begins Wednesday, March 1, at 9:30 AM.
Come to the Reference Desk or call (631) 286-0818 x1.
You will register for a time slot between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM, for March 21 or April 4.

Are you interested in helping someone learn to read and write English? The Library is looking for volunteers with instructional experience who would like to open countless doors for someone else by offering the gift of literacy. Interested persons should

Renew or Apply for a New Library Card on Our Website
South Country Library patrons may renew their card or apply for a new one online. Images of photo ID & address verification are required. Or visit our Patron Services desk at the front of the library for the same service.

 
Passport Services by Appointment
We serve first-time applicants, minor applicants, adult applicants whose most recent passport was issued as a minor, and applicants who have lost their passports. 
Hours are by appointment only.

Angie and Kate are our social work interns from Stony Brook University. They can help with information, referrals, and paperwork for housing, treatment, social services, unemployment, food pantries, and more.

Services for Veterans and Job-Seekers
Helps veterans and their families navigate the VA bureaucracy, provides academic tutoring, and assists with employment transition.
Provides various tools to help with every step of the job search including résumé assistance, interview preparation, and career planning.
Each service provides live virtual assistance every day
from 2:00 - 11:00 PM. A current library card is required.
