Over the past several weeks, we've been busy at work reorganizing our DVD collection to make it easier for you to locate films in other languages! You may have noticed that at the end of our fiction DVDs, ahead of the non-fiction collection, we've added a new World Cinema section. Here you will find all our films that are in other languages with English subtitles. They are all labelled by language first, then title. So you'll find all our French films together, then German, and so forth. We have a huge variety of languages, ranging from Afrikaans to Welsh. Our French and Korean collections are the largest and have tons of different genres of movies and series - everything from lighthearted comedies to intense thrillers. Check out our World Cinema collection the next time you visit us at the CPL!

I am a super fan of the Canmore Library App called Libby. I became acquainted with Libby when I had a job that involved travel. I spent a lot of time in my car by myself and enjoyed listening to my favourite audiobooks through my iPhone. In 2021, I had surgery on my left shoulder; my right shoulder was also compromised so holding books was difficult for me. In 2022, I had surgery on my right shoulder. During my recuperation from both surgeries, I spend many hours listening to audiobooks. Both surgeries were during Covid so I received no visitors and the audiobooks became even more important to stave off the isolation and loneliness. I still spend many hours listening to audiobooks while cooking, cleaning, walking, hiking and driving and am thankful that the library has this option. There are still so many available audiobooks that I have yet to read. I often have 5-10 titles on hold while listening to those immediately available in the interim. -Submitted by Debbie Heikkila - Canmore Library Staff and happy Libby subscriber. Download the Libby app to borrow eBooks, eAudiobooks, magazines and more! To help you get started, check out this online brochure for Libby by OverDrive.

Adult Activity Kit: Air-Dry Clay Flower Dish
With this activity kit from Canmore Public Library, you’ll get everything you need to make your own air-dry clay, and the instructions on how to turn that clay into a cute flower dish! Clay is considered to be the oldest ceramic material, with the oldest ceramic shards found dating back to 14,000 BC. Prehistoric humans used the raw clay from the earth to create many vessels and other items, and they also created the first kilns to fire and harden the clay. Now, it is a much easier process with industrialization, but at its core, clay remains a material that is used to create. From fine bone china to Play-Doh, clay is an integral part of humanity, and is something that can connect different times and cultures. The air-dry clay in this kit is made from baking soda, cornstarch, and water. It hardens as it dries - no need for the oven*, just time! Learn how to not only make the clay yourself, but also how to create a lovely little flower dish - and anything else you can imagine! One kit per person. If multiple people from your household would like a kit, please register each person separately. For adults, one kit per person. If multiple people from your household would like a kit, please register each person separately. *This activity kit does require the use of a stove to heat the clay mixture. By signing up for this kit you agree to the inherent risks and responsibilities that come with the safe operation of a stove.
